“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the person who'll decide where to go.”
Dr. Seuss
The commencement speeches given by our 2010 graduates sum up their experiences at Madison Country Day School.
Words from our graduates ...
Hans Eric Becklin
"We look towards the future with eager minds. Standing here now, we cannot fully appreciate this place. I know, however, that when we are most ready to appreciate this place, it will still be here, producing the sort of students standing before you today on the threshold of our next adventure: grateful for the education of the past and ready to make a difference in the future." Nick Heisig
"I long anticipated being sad to leave this school because I doubted that there could be anywhere else with such a wonderful atmosphere. Although I know now that our college lives will be filled with great joy, I will still miss the combination of such a beautifully inspiring campus to look out on and the ability to hold conversations with teachers, students and even parents. These two things, foremost among many others, are why I am quite thankful to have begun my education here." For Nick's full speech, please click here.
Emily Henry
"Each day we walked these halls as MCDS students, we were reminded of what makes this school so different from those we could have attended, along with those some of us did attend. We come from different backgrounds, different countries and different schools: our diversity is largely what makes MCDS such an enriching place for parents to send their children." Julian Pozniak
"Although this class is off to many new and different places, we will always accompany each other in the shared memories of our experiences here at MCDS. Indeed, all of Madison Country Day School is a stage, and the play is perfectly cast." For Julian's full speech, please click here.
Helen Rowland
"Life is unexpected. I don’t think it is possible to be completely prepared for every challenge ahead. Yet the one thing I walk out of here today with, thanks to the brilliant community that has surrounded me for the past three years, is the ability to face new situations confidently in a unique light and adopt new perspectives." As a liberal arts school, music fills the hallways and our lives on a daily basis. Like in the classroom, music found a special place in the commencement ceremony.
