Job Summary

The marketing strategist for Madison Country Day School (MCDS) will work closely with the Director of Development, the trustee chair of the marketing committee, and the Directors of Enrollment to develop and implement a comprehensive and strategic marketing plan designed to raise visibility, grow enrollment, and increase retention for an innovative IB school that serves Pre-K–Grade 12 students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

In this role, the marketing strategist will develop and implement marketing and communications strategy aimed at four primary objectives: 1) Strengthen MCDS brand; 2) Build awareness; 3) Increase inquiries/tours/visits/applications; and 4) Engage current families to increase school retention.

Key job components include:

  • Develop and implement a marketing plan for MCDS that skillfully integrates a range of best-practice strategies and tactics in advertising and communications.
    • Develop and implement project-focused marketing plan(s), e.g. Summer Discovery summer school program and other revenue-driven projects that may be initiated by the Head of School or other school leadership.
  • Write copy for all MCDS marketing materials including print, digital and video formats. Collaborate with Web and Creative Services Manager who will design the materials.
    • Key audiences include:
      • Prospective families and students
      • Donors and volunteers
      • Internal community: current families and students, faculty, staff, Board of Trustees
      • External community: alumni, media, key opinion leaders
    • Sample projects include:
      • Admissions & Enrollment e.g. division brochures, high school course guide, admissions checklists, promo for HS Preview Night, Fall and Winter Open Houses, PK/K Readiness Days, Parent Orientation(s)
      • MCDS Events marketing and promotion e.g. Jazz Showcase, theatre, music, and sports-related event promo and collateral
      • Fund Development e.g. collateral for the MCDS Annual Fund, major fundraising events, stewardship events, and the MCDS Endowment

This list is just an example. Other campaigns and strategies may be added at the discretion of the Director of Development.

  • Manage strategy and content for MCDS social platforms—Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Google+
  • Lead concepting, content development, and raw shooting for video(s) that advance and enhance the school’s programs, initiatives and accomplishments (Admission & Enrollment / Fund Development / Alumni); work in collaboration with Web and Creative Services Manager who will refine and package finished product for brand consistency and strategic impact.
  • Track, compile and analyze relevant marketing data for Board and senior leadership reports and decision making; work with Web and Creative Services Manager who will provide data visualization and dashboards.
  • Other duties as assigned by Head of School and/or Director of Development.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or marketing
  • 3+ years of experience in marketing and communications with educational institutions and / or nonprofit organizations
  • A portfolio of successful marketing and communications work with a web and social media emphasis. Work portfolio examples should demonstrate capability of solving marketing problems, storytelling skill and blending multiple communication modes to achieve strategic goals.
