Homework
Homework is regularly assigned to reinforce and expand upon
classroom learning, to encourage personal responsibility, and
to develop good study habits. Homework is intended to emphasize
that learning does not occur exclusively in the classroom and
to excite children about learning on their own and sharing their
knowledge with others. Homework plays a critical role in achieving
the high standards of Madison Country Day School. The amount
of homework students are expected to complete each night increases
with each higher grade level. For example, a Lower School student
in the third grade can expect to have approximately one hour
of homework each school night; while a twelfth-grade student
in the Upper School might expect to have approximately two to
three hours of homework each school night.
Recess and Physical Education
Recess and physical education are important to students' academic
success, physical well being, lifelong fitness, and positive
frame of mind. Students can maintain attention in the classroom
if provided
with
scheduled
breaks between classes. These breaks also allow
time for getting organized, socializing, play, and consultation
with teachers. |
