The First Step in your Child's
College-Preparatory Education
The Pre-Kindergarten Program at Madison Country Day School offers your four year old experiences that foster a love for learning at an early age. In a classroom with a focus on building community, your child will begin his or her educational journey in a nurturing, inspiring environment.
"MCDS is truly a gem. It's more than just a school - it's a close-knit community dedicated to teaching students much more than what the minimum academic standards dictate. It is a community that fosters independence, respect, creativity, and a love of learning."

Pre-Kindergarten Program Goals
- support and develop creative thinking and problem-solving skills
- develop and enhance learning skills and strategies
- develop appropriate socialization and self-help skills; and
- develop math and reading readiness skills that are integrated into the student’s daily work and longer-term projects
Pre-Kindergarten Curriculum
The Pre-Kindergarten curriculum allows the children to initiate their own projects as well as participate in teacher directed units. Within a particular unit, integrated activities are used to advance the students’ skills in the areas of pre-reading, math, fine motor, and social skills. The children also take nature hikes, share activities with their Lower School classroom buddies, and expend their energy on our playground and fields overlooking Lake Cherokee. The children also participate weekly in music, P.E., science, Spanish, and art.
