MCDS encourages parents to set up car pools for transporting their children back and forth to school. The school has also organized a transportation system that provides safe, secure service for students from both East and West sides of Madison. Provided by First Student, Inc., one or two way service is available - morning and/or afternoon.

First Student Safety Policies & Principles

First Student will not perform a service unless it can be done in a safe manner. First Student requires that all employees perform their duties safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of passengers, fellow employees and themselves. Management is committed to providing a safe place to work, a well-maintained fleet, protective equipment for shop maintenance personnel, and all the necessary tools and training for employees to perform their jobs safely and effectively.

Management believes that working safely promotes quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction. Furthermore, management is committed to maintaining an on-going comprehensive and prevention-oriented safety process as the organization's top priority. First Student's foremost priority must always be the safety of passengers and employees.

Principles of Safety

  • Safety is a condition of employment; each employee must assume responsibility for working safely.

  • Management is directly responsible for implementing programs to prevent accidents, injuries and illnesses, with each level accountable to the one above and responsible for the level below.

  • Ongoing training is essential for safe work places.

  • Safety audits must be conducted continuously.

  • All employees should report unsafe acts and conditions.

  • All deficiencies must be corrected promptly through modifying facilities, changing procedures, improving employee training, or disciplining constructively and consistently.

  • All unsafe practices and incidents with injury potential, as well as all injuries, must be investigated thoroughly.

  • Safety off the job is just as important as safety on the job.

    2010-11 Bus Transportation Information

    The bus will leave the Lower School at 3:40 p.m. and the Middle/High School at 3:45 p.m. There will be no late bus for students participating in after school activities.

    Depending upon the pick-up and drop-off location (to be determined by First Student, Inc.), your child may be picked up as early as 6:45 a.m. and dropped off as late as 5:10 p.m. There is no guarantee that your pick-up or drop-off location will be directly in front of your residence. A child may have to walk a short distance to or from the bus. Because these are full size buses, we do not anticipate having to limit the number of riders on the bus. The routes will be finalized the fourth week of August. The buses do not have seat belts, so they will not be able to accommodate car seats.


    2010-11 Bus Transportation Costs Per Student:

    • Ride both ways (before and after school): $1,885.70 for the year (or $188.57 per month, September-June )
    • Ride one way (before or after school): $1,185.05 for the year (or $118.50 per month, September-June)

    Important - If you sign up for bus service, you are financially obligated for the entire year, even if you choose to discontinue use of the service. Weeks will not be split up; you must pay for 5 days even if you don't plan to use all 5 days.
