MCDS Summer Camp offers a unique blend of light academics and indoor/outdoor active fun, as well as inspirational and exciting exploration in the fields of science, nature, art, and world cultures.
Our campers will each day experience all of the following engaging classes:
Wonders of Nature
Love catching insects or identifying flowers and birds? Our beautiful campus invites you to spend quality time hiking and exploring. You will also learn about nature conservation, recycling, weather, and protected species. If you have an interest in gardening, we invite you to join our community garden group.
Art Dream
Imagine, create, enjoy. If you ever wanted to draw to the music or show off your personality in other works of art, this class will give you a green light to do just that. Express your individuality while making your own paper, tie-dyeing, modeling, or painting.
Indoor/Outdoor Games
Being active is the goal of these two classes. Whether outside on the track or field or playing team games in the gym, we guarantee that you will keep moving. Tennis and badminton practice, obstacle courses, gymnastics, and yoga are included on our sports menu.
Around the World
World travelers or travelers-to-be, welcome! Join us on a journey to interesting places on Earth. Along the way you will learn useful phrases in many languages, and, yes, you will also be able to taste samples of different dishes and treats from around the globe.
Mad Math and Word Challenge
“Keeping our brains active” is the slogan of this class. Join us for math Mad Minute, mind teaser and decoding games, treasure hunts, Rhyme Time, or Wheel of Fortune fun. Keep the dictionary and thesaurus close while writing a story or a poem. This year all budding writers will have a chance to submit their best work for our “Mind of the Print” contest.
Science Magic/Computer Helper
Have you ever played with a fresh ball of green slime? Can you imagine yourself walking into a bubble? Would you like to build a rocket? Besides our weekly science projects, this class will engage you in designing and building anything from a simple house to a complicated bridge or a whole city. Our computer lab will be open during this time to assist you with your projects.
Free Choice
One of our favorite classes is back! Join us for an engaging group activity, chat with your friends, share your talent or interest, and take a stroll in the prairie or a seat in our computer lab. Time to relax!
Each subject lasts about 45 minutes each day. There are two 30-minute snack breaks and one 1-hour lunch break. Healthy and nutritious snacks will be provided. Campers are asked to bring their own lunch.
Jump Start Program
The Jump Start Program is designed to:
1) help kids who need a boost during the summer in order to prepare academically for the fall, and
2) challenge motivated students who are seeking academic enrichment opportunities during the summer months.
Jump Start classes offer tutoring in two core subject areas: Math and Spanish. Boys and girls will be assigned to the appropriate class level based on their needs and abilities. The hour and a half long classes, led by qualified instructors, range from 2-5 students per class so you can be sure your child will be getting plenty of individual attention.
Students participating in our Jump Start Program can join our action-packed camp session in progress.
