Q. I’ve already given to the Annual Fund.
How is the Capital Campaign different and why should I give to
it?
A. The Annual Fund offsets our day to day operating costs whereas
the Capital Campaign directly funds the specific building project,
namely our Middle & Upper School classroom & gymnasium addition.
The best reason to give to the Capital Campaign is to ensure
that our students have first-class learning facilities. This
will enable our students to have the advantages of state-of-the-art science, music, art, library, and PE facilities as well as
sufficient classroom space for proper presentation of other academic
offerings. While the new building opened in the fall of 2005, MCDS still welcomes financial support to offset the final cost of construction.
Q. I know the building costs money. What about paying for what’s
inside?
A. Yes, the building itself costs money. But there are additional
(soft) costs on the inside. Some of these include desks, tables,
chairs, bleachers, sound and light equipment, music stands, risers,
PE equipment and gymnasium furnishings, telephone and security
systems, outdoor basketball court, complete science room furnishings
and set-up, kiln, office furniture, bookshelves, lockers, stage
curtains, display cabinetry and other items at a cost of approximately
$700,000.
Q. What are the benefits to the school? Are there any benefits
to me?
A. The school benefits in several ways. MCDS will enjoy continued
enrollment and growth which in turn, through incoming tuition,
will help meet our budgetary needs and help offset costs.
Other benefits include happy students and teachers! Working and
learning in an up-to-date facility helps to ensure a sound and positive educational experience. Likewise, an updated facility helps to attract new students and quality teachers. With the addition of the gymnasium/theater, parents and the
community will enjoy on-site athletic, theatrical, and musical productions. Our athletic
teams will now enjoy hosting home games and providing excellent
locker room facilities for our visitors. Funds that have gone
to renting off-site facilities can now be used for other activities
and materials.
Q. Who is responsible for the Capital Campaign?
A. The Development Office at MCDS oversees the Capital Campaign. Either Luke Felker, Head of School, or Barb Spurlin, Business Manager, can answer your questions regarding the campaign.
