Madison Country Day School provides both breadth and depth in athletic and physical education classes. From simple, popular games such as kickball to sequential sports such as basketball, students learn to participate, enjoy, and grow from their experiences. Exercise and athletics contribute to good health and enhanced physical and emotional well-being. The teamwork, social skills, and knowledge gained in these activities serve students well throughout their lives.

- To develop whole-body and fine motor skills utilizing a variety of movement experiences
Grades 1 through 4
The program is composed of three major areas: track and
field, gymnastics and tumbling, and team sports. Games
and skill practices are used to build proficiency and teach
strategy. Units include kickball,
track and field (50- and 100-yard dashes, mile runs and field events),
volleyball, soccer, basic tumbling and balancing, basketball,
and fitness conditioning. Students develop confidence
and motivation to participate in organized and individual physical
activities. Leadership, teamwork, and good sportsmanship are
taught. The program emphasizes lifelong fitness.
