To be enrolled in Pre-Kindergarten classes, a child must be 4 years old by
September 1st.
The pre-kindergarten program seeks to engage the child's interests, background, and potential. This approach helps each child become an active and independent learner.
Pre-Kindergarten Program Goals
- support and develop creative thinking and problem-solving skills
- develop and enhance learning skills and strategies
- develop appropriate socialization and self-help skills; and
- develop math and reading readiness skills that are integrated into the student's daily work and longer-term projects
Pre-Kindergarten Specials
The pre-kindergarten class meets with each of the following specialist teachers once a week: music, art, science, Spanish, and physical education.
The pre-kindergarten curriculum allows the children to initiate
their own projects as well as participate in teacher directed
units. Within a particular unit, integrated activities are used
to advance the students' skills in the areas of pre-reading,
math, fine motor, and social skills. The children also take nature
hikes, share activities with their Lower School classroom buddies,
and expend their energy on our playground and fields overlooking
Lake Cherokee. The children also participate weekly in music,
P.E., science, Spanish, and art. |
