Madison Country Day School is proud to introduce Mr. Luke Felker as Head of School. Mr. Felker came to Madison Country Day early in the school’s history as a cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College, where his studies focused on government and education. He completed additional studies at Brown University and has worked extensively for the National AmeriCorps Programs as an Education Award Recipient. As a beloved teacher, administrator, and fervent supporter of Madison Country Day School over the past eight years, Mr. Felker has experienced the magic of the MCDS community, and we are honored that he is taking the helm at this exciting juncture in the school’s development.
First drawn to Madison Country Day by its international curriculum and the warmth of its community, Mr. Felker began his teaching career in first grade. His love of children and his ability to support high academic standards with integrity and compassion have resulted in a classroom learning environment where, as one parent shared, “children flourish and develop their own skills, personalities, and an enduring love of learning.” In his position as Director of Research and Chair of the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) accreditation process at Madison Country Day, Mr. Felker led the school through a three-year self-study process, examining the degree to which the school was effective in meeting its own goals and mission, as well as identifying areas in which the school could continue to develop. His work culminated in Madison Country Day’s prestigious ISACS accreditation in 2005, which has strengthened both the curriculum and the learning community at the school. In addition to his administrative and teaching responsibilities at Madison Country Day, Mr. Felker has spent many years serving young people and their families through his business, Felker Educational Consulting.
Mr. Felker’s love of learning and delight in the rigors of teaching have enriched and will continue to enrich the MCDS family. A fourth generation teacher and a third generation Madisonian, Mr. Felker currently resides in Stoughton with his wife, Kimberly, and stepson William, who attends Madison Country Day as a sophomore.
With a unique mission poised for full implementation, a powerful and challenging academic curriculum, and a supportive, inclusive community that is united in its support for the school, great opportunities lie ahead for MCDS. Mr. Felker brings a unique combination of passion, intellect, experience, and dedication to our community – and it is our privilege to welcome him to the role of Head of Madison Country Day School.
