Check-in Procedures:
  • The younger students will be checked in at the Lower School Pod and their arrival time will be noted. Middle school students will check-in directly to their Extended Day classroom by 3:45 p.m. For check-out, parents will sign out each student electronically, and the check-out time will be noted.

  • If you need to communicate to your child(ren) that they should go to Extended Day after school, please make sure to email their homeroom teacher/advisor by 11 a.m. If you have a last-minute change of schedule, please contact Beatrice Jones at (608) 850-6000 by 3 p.m. Mrs. Jones can deliver a message to the student’s teacher/advisor so there is no miscommunication and your student is where he/she needs to be at the end of the day.
  • If a student is signed up for an extracurricular activity, and the activity is canceled, the student will be moved to Extended Day at 3:45 p.m. If an extracurricular activity is canceled with less than 24 hours notice, parents will not be charged for the first hour of Extended Day. However, if an extracurricular is canceled more than 24 hours in advance or a student is signed into Extended Day for more than one hour, the appropriate rate will be charged.

Extended Day Locations:

Weather permitting, all students not in an after-school activity or Library Lab will be on the LS playground from 4–4:30 p.m. and 5:05–5:45 p.m. After 5:45 p.m. all students will be in the LS Pod.

Pre-Kindergarten through grade 1:
The youngest students will be located in one of our two kindergarten classrooms for snack and indoor play. This will give the younger students more space and ability to play and work in an early childhood environment.

Grades 2–8:
Students will have a choice between Library Lab (located in LS Library from 3:40–4:30 p.m.), where students can read and complete homework, or Extended Day, located in a Lower School classroom, where they can participate in art projects, educational/learning games, or free choice. Various community-building events such as attendance at high school home sporting events will also be planned throughout the year.

My children love all of the after-school activities with their friends, and I love that I don’t have to race them around town to take them to soccer, dance, and Taekwondo. At MCDS, they are safe and happy after school.”
