The philosophy of the MCDS Sports Program is to assist all students in developing the knowledge, skills, and appreciation for a physically active lifestyle. Game and skill practices are employed requiring a variety of fundamental locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative movements. These skills provide the foundation for organized games. By focusing on the mastery of fundamental skills, students develop the confidence and motivation to participate in both organized and individual sports activities throughout their lifetime.
The Sports Program has four major developmental areas:
- Track and Field - track events, cross country, high and long jump
- Outdoor Water Sports - canoeing and kyaking
- Gymnastics - tumbling, dance, balance
- School-sponsored competitive sports - co-ed soccer teams, girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball, and track and field.
The Lower School Sports Program concentrates on helping students to develop skills in a wide variety of sports. Offerings vary by age but can include soccer, track and field, kyaking and canoeing.
In Middle School, students begin both intramural and interscholastic sports competition. The school maintains a "no cut" team sports policy.
Upper School students can participate in Varsity Crew, which competes regionally. MCDS is a member of WIAA and is actively working to expand the Upper School Sports Program.
