Uniform Requirements

MCDS believes in a uniform because it:

  • Allows students to focus on academics rather than on dress;
  • Alleviates competition for more expensive clothing and/or fad clothing;
  • Helps the student get ready for school in the morning with as little conflict over clothing as possible.

The strong support of parents/guardians is essential to uphold this policy. Clothing should be clean and in good repair with no holes or tears. Please make sure your child is dressed in proper uniform before leaving for school. If a student is dressed inappropriately, a staff member may ask a student to return home or call a parent/guardian to bring in more suitable clothing.

For both convenience and to assure consistency with the uniform, Land’s End and French Toast are the two preferred providers. Although you may purchase items from other vendors, strict compliance to the style and color requirements of these key vendors is the only guarantee that items from other vendors will be acceptable. Specific requirements for divisions are noted below.

General Appearance: All MCDS community members shall ensure their hair style, hair color, hair accessories, and other bodily adornments are presented in a tidy and non-distracting manner. Any hair highlights or dying should be natural hair colors (e.g., brown, black, blond, auburn).

Spirit Wear Days: As an exception to the daily uniform, on Spirit Wear Days students may wear jeans (without holes, rips, or stains) and shirts, pants, or sweatshirts that are approved MCDS apparel. (Spirit wear sales occur multiple times throughout the year; items sold during these sales are approved, as are musical production shirts and other items pre-approved by the appropriate Division Head.) MCDS hats are allowed on Spirit Wear Days; hats are not allowed in the school building on non-spirit wear days. Leggings are not permitted to be worn as pants.
