Math at MCDS

by Laura Soden,
Mathematics Department Chair

The MCDS high school mathematics curriculum gives students a solid foundation in the basics of mathematics, including Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics, Probability, and Calculus. We strive to create a learning environment that stresses definition, proof, and logical thinking in order to allow students to analyze information, make connections, and apply their knowledge to unfamiliar situations.

The mathematics department believes in a balanced approach that provides many lenses through which students can view and interact with mathematics. This is done through lively class discussions and written exercises that allow students the opportunity to use their technical skill as well as their creative problem solving. Students also use technology to reinforce their understanding and solve real world problems. Students will emerge from their years at MCDS high school as competent mathematicians who can read, write, and discuss mathematics.
