Fine Arts Week 2019: Feel the Rhythm! will run from January 28–February 1, with the grand finale Jazz Showcase on Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the MCDS gymnasium. Throughout the week, various clinicians will be at MCDS working with our students in many different areas.
Visiting visual artists this year include: Darcy Sage (LS), Isaac ‘IZK’ Davies (MS), and Nicky Ross (HS). In the world of music and dance, we welcome Professor Nani Agbeli who is Director of West African Music, Dance and Arts (Ghana) at CalArts in Valencia, California. He will conduct clinics with students during music class/ensemble times as well as during PE classes. Krystal Lonsdale will be a visiting musician for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes.
James Wagoner will continue to work with our students in the area of drama. He will visit Lower School grades for the first time and continue his work with the older grades. New this year for High School, we are offering lunch time ‘career connections’ to give our oldest students an opportunity to ask questions of MCDS parents or professors who currently work in areas of the arts. More details about these lunch meetings will come from College Advisor Matt Koehler.
The all school Art Gallery will be ready for viewing at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29 and will stay up for the entire week. Families are invited to attend the gallery and enjoy all of the beautiful work created by our students. Nani Agbeli, our dance and music clinician, will present a performance in the gymnasium to the entire student body on Thursday, January 31, at 2:45 p.m. Families are invited to attend this performance as well.
