MCDS Names New Head of School

Dr. Tekakwitha Pernambuco-Wise has been chosen to serve as the next Head of Madison Country Day School, beginning July 2020.

She received her B.A. in Philosophy from Brown University, M.A. in Education from the University of Toronto, and her Ed.D. from Saint Mary’s College of California.

Since 2013, Dr. Pernambuco-Wise has served as Head of School at Sea Crest, a JK-8 school in Half Moon Bay, California. Prior to that, she held Middle and Upper School headships at two other private schools in California. She is an elected member of the Country Day Schools Headmasters Association and has received multiple writing and education honors and awards throughout her distinguished career.

Dr. Pernambuco-Wise currently holds numerous positions focused on teaching, mentoring and leadership development including the Women of Influence in Education Conference, the National Association for Independent Schools (NAIS, of which MCDS is a member), and the Independent School Management (ISM). She also has extensive board, continuing education, and volunteer experience.

The MCDS Board of Trustees formed a Head Search Committee in January of 2019. The committee took a comprehensive approach to garner feedback from every member of the MCDS community, including through listening sessions, Q&A, ongoing updates, one-on-one follow-up meetings, online surveys, and an exhaustive analysis and summation of all input received.

Dr. Pernambuco-Wise’s priorities include academic excellence, student engagement, leadership development, diversity and inclusion, communications and community building, support of risk taking, the importance of service, and developing the whole child — all of which align with the mission of MCDS.
