We are pleased to announce that four incoming high school students have been offered merit scholarships as women showing passion and achievement in the areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Congratulations to these students!

MCDS is proud to be leading the way in science education and creating trailblazing opportunities for our students from Pre-K to grade 12. Recent standout science achievements include:

Science teachers Shelley Petzold, and Rachael Lancor hold leadership positions in the Wisconsin Society of Science Teachers. They presented, along with MCDS faculty Tara Williams and Michelle Kramer, to science colleagues from around the state at the 2022 conference in Wausau.

We added a design course to the curriculum that covers technology (3D printers, laser cutter, CNC machine) and problem solving by using the design cycle.

Facilitated Advanced Science Research (ASR) projects for our students, including:

  • Gretchen ‘23, Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center
  • Ella ‘23, Civil & Environmental Engineering
  • Maddie ‘23, Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center

We proudly collaborate locally to enhance our students science experience:

  • Use of UW-Whitewater’s HNMR and IR Spectroscopy machines for chemical analysis.
  • Stream monitoring partnership with River Rock Coalition
  • Internship, field trip, and summer research opportunities supported by the Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center
